Volunteer

We depend on our 100+ volunteers to assist us in providing great natural history programs for children and adults in the Missoula community and beyond. We have myriad volunteer opportunities, including working with our staff naturalists in 4th & 5th grade classrooms with the Visiting Naturalist in the Schools program, helping with our Annual Banquet & Auction, leading field trips, writing Field Notes for Montana Public Radio, working in our Native Plant Garden–and many more!

Donate

MNHC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donations are tax deductible. Help us connect people of all ages with nature! Thank you for your support.

If interested in donating, consider planned giving. Planned gifts may offer the best way to maximize a donation while at the same time addressing personal and family concerns. Such gifts are important to the long-term future of MNHC and may be made as an alternative to or in conjunction with an outright gift.

Become a Master Naturalist

The Montana Master Naturalist Program is designed for adults who want to stoke their curiosity and deepen their knowledge of the natural world. We offer a range of programs to fit the needs of a diverse community, but all the classes share a common goal of providing participants with the skills to interpret the Montana landscape. After completing the program, Master Naturalists can give back to their communities and continue to hone their skills by volunteering for natural history and environmental organizations around the state.

Buy Our License Plate!

Purchasing an MNHC license plate is a great way to show your support wherever you go! The beautiful Great Horned Owl was painted by Bitterroot artist Joseph Thornbrugh and the plate was designed by Missoula’s own Eileen Chontos. Available at your local County Treasurer’s Office, the first-time cost is $40, which includes a $20 donation to MNHC. The renewal fee is just $20, all of which goes to MNHC and helps us connect more people with nature!

Become a Community Partner

We are honored to collaborate with many businesses, organizations, and agencies in Missoula, in western Montana, and beyond. We work with these groups to provide new programs, fundraise, and bring natural history education to new places and people. Have an idea? Interested in collaborating or sponsoring an event? Contact us!

Internships

MNHC internships offer an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in natural history education as part of a professional non-profit organization. Participating interns will acquire essential teaching and program development skills through involvement in outdoor and environmental education and community events. Interns will have the flexibility to work in programs of specific interest to them and will be able to emphasize skills they wish to further develop. Credit is available (though interns do not have to be students).

Click through to our employment listings page to see if we are hiring! While we do not often hire new permanent staff, we hire for several temporary positions each year: 8-10 summer camp instructors for June, July and August; and 2-4 field trip instructors for our Visiting Naturalist in the Schools field trips in May and October.
