Traveling Naturalist

Bring a naturalist to you! MNHC Teaching Naturalists can meet your group or class at a school or at another location of your choice—including local natural areas.

Traveling Naturalist experiences could include outdoor explorations such as insect surveys or nature hikes, or indoor activities using museum specimens and other naturalist tools. Our teaching naturalists will bring the necessary naturalist tools (like binoculars, spotting scopes, or insect nets), specimens, and other materials to help excite your students’ curiosity and connect them with nature. We work with teachers and group leaders to determine the best lesson for your group, and can adapt our learning experiences to meet your teaching goals.

Cost:

  • $100 for a one-hour program for up to 30 people; includes travel up to 20 miles.
  • Additional programming is $50 per hour; travel over 20 miles is 60 cents per mile.

Do you want to visit a natural area with an MNHC teaching naturalist but don’t know how or where to go? No problem! We are happy to work with you to suggest sites and to help you navigate any permitting needs.
