Lunchtime Lecture: Geology of Glacier National Park

November 16, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Date: Thursday, November 16
Time: 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Location: Montana Natural History Center

Glacier National Park features dramatic peaks and rainbow-hued rocks. Join geologist Bruce Baty for an illustrated lecture explaining the origin of these marvels. Learn how to identify the different rocks layers visible  within the mountains and define features created by glacial processes. Find out how the Park moved 30 miles east and why we can see one-billion-year-old rock overlaying much younger rock. An amazing constellation of geologic events from sedimentation in an ancient sea to uplift and erosion create the stunning landscape we see today.

Sit back, relax, eat lunch, and learn!

This program is free with admission to MNHC or with an MNHC membership.

No registration is necessary.
