Everything you wanted to know about dinosaurs in a four-part series! Join us for one, two, or all four fascinating conversations on dinosaurs with local paleontologist Jason Poole. Each ticket purchase comes with admission for one plus your choice of two alcoholic beverages. (Non-alcoholic options also provided.)

Jason C. Poole is the Field Crew Chief and resident paleo-artist at the Elevation Science Institute in Red Lodge, MT, and he has worn many other hats too: professor of paleontology, art teacher, and paleontology field instructor. With 25 years of experience in natural history education and public engagement, he is an avid public speaker and promoter of scientific literacy.

Jason has excavated dinosaurs on three continents, including Africa and North and South America. He has worked on several newly discovered dinosaurs, including Paralititan, Dreadnoughtus and Suuwassea. His art has been featured in numerous publications, including National Geographic, and appears in many museum and private collections.

Jason resides in Missoula, Montana and can often be found sketching in the studio and in the great outdoors.

October 12: Digging Up Dinosaurs on Three Continents
In this introductory talk, you’ll meet Jason and learn about his background in paleontology. Join him as he shares his experience and expertise excavating dinosaurs in Africa and North and South America. Each dig unearthed a new genus and species of massive dinosaur!

October 19: How I Spent My Summer
Jason returns with more fun excavating dinosaurs, this time focusing on his work in Montana, including a dig site you may have heard of. Our understanding of Montana’s fossil sites has grown as new specimens are uncovered every year. Get your Montana dinosaur questions answered in this fascinating dinosaur program!

October 26: Chalk Talk: What Is A Dinosaur?
Most folks know a dinosaur when they see one. But how do scientists decide what is and what is not a dinosaur? Before PowerPoint there were slides and before slides there was the chalkboard. The art of the chalk talk is brought to bear here in this low-tech, hi-fun presentation on what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur.

November 2: Dead on Arrival: A Dinosaur Art Talk
Images of dinosaurs are everywhere today and yet nobody has ever seen one alive. So how do scientists and artists work together to put skin on bone? What sorts of dinosaur behaviors can be sleuthed out and represented on canvas? And what strange forces guided Jason to become a paleo-artist? Science meets art in this final talk of our series.
