Embark on a captivating journey into the world of taxidermy at our exclusive members-only event, “Hmm…What’s in There? Peek into Taxidermy with Alyssa Cornell,” taking place on January 17th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Montana Natural History Center.

Have you ever wondered about the mysteries concealed within a taxidermy mount? Join us at MNHC for an exploration of how the materials used in taxidermy unveil stories of the past and set the stage for the preservation of our natural history into the future.

Our expert guide, Alyssa Cornell, will illuminate the art and science of taxidermy using some of our museum’s most fascinating specimens, including the awe-inspiring bison, the elegant Wilson’s Snipe, study skins, her personal taxidermy supplies, exquisite pelts, and meticulously articulated bird skeletons. But this event isn’t just about observation; it’s interactive! You’ll have the chance to engage with the inner workings of a taxidermy mount, getting hands-on by guessing and creating the anatomy on paper.

Alyssa will also delve into the evolution of taxidermy practices, comparing the old with the new and offering insights into how these changes impact the approach of museum professionals towards the care of these specimens.

As a special bonus, parents can bring their children aged 4 and up to this event. MNHC will provide supervised childcare while the little ones enjoy a showing of “The Lorax.” Popcorn will be served as well!

It’s a rare opportunity for both grown-ups and youngsters to have an educational and entertaining evening.

Mark your calendar for January 17th and reserve your spot at this exclusive event. “Hmm…What’s in There? Peek into Taxidermy with Alyssa Cornell” promises an evening of discovery, learning, and wonder at the Montana Natural History Center.
