Take a tour of the geology of Utah with geologist Bruce Baty! This is a great primer for your upcoming spring break trip. Or it can be a vicarious vacation!

The geologic history of Utah speaks not only to universal concepts seen in our own state, but also showcases site specific wonders. Bruce will provide an illustrated program highlighting Utah’s National Parks (Zion, Arches, Dinosaur N.P., Canyon Lands, and Bryce), Utah State Parks (Goblin Valley, Kodachrome Basin, Coral Sand Dunes, and Dead Horse Point). Bruce will also discuss the marvels of the San Rafael Swell, slot canyons, the Basin and Range area, and the Great Salt Lake.

Instructor: Bruce Baty graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1967 with a major in geology. In September of 1967 he enrolled in a masters graduate program in geology at the University of Montana. While there, he taught some undergraduate geology lab courses and enjoyed the challenge of designing course work, tests, and working with students. As a result of those experiences, Bruce graduated with a master’s degree in geology with a teaching endorsement in earth science. He taught geology and earth science at Hellgate High School for the next thirty years, retiring from teaching in 2001.
