Hibernation Celebration!

Saturday Kids’ Activity

What do turtles do in the winter? How long can a ground squirrel sleep? Do frogs really freeze solid? Hibernation is a fascinating state and an amazing solution to the challenges of winter. Significant drops in heart rate, respiration, and body temperature permit creatures to survive at a low metabolic rate. Despite months of inactivity, animals do not experience muscle atrophy. Scientists continue to study the mysteries of hibernation. Learn all about the amazing winter lives of local animals during this Saturday Kids’ Activity and paint your own (hibernating) pet rock!
