Summer Camp Program Instructor (position filled)
Job Summary: Have fun this summer while gaining valuable experience in environmental education providing leadership and instruction for the Summer Science Day Camps at The Montana Natural History Center. These camps are a popular series of programs for kids ages 4 – 13, and combine experiential natural science education with outdoor fun and adventure. Camps include weekly field trips and run for 10 weeks from June 9 through August 15. Every week is unique, so interns will gain experience in outdoor environmental education while we explore a variety of topics in natural history!
Specific Duties:
- Develop and lead week-long, themed, programs for groups age 4-13 years.
- Provide a safe, fun and educational environment.
- Assure health and safety of the participants and build positive group dynamics.
- Supervise morning and after camp activities as scheduled.
- Maintain program supplies and make suggestions for development.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in education or natural sciences
- Must have some experience supervising children in an outdoor setting
- Must be comfortable managing groups of up to 14 children, outdoors
- Must be able to work as part of a team
- Strong organizational, communication and writing skills
- Commitment to stewardship through experiential education
- CPR and first aid certification by June 9, life guard certification a plus
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be available for the complete duration of the program
- Flexibility, dependability, responsibility and a desire to have fun!
Conditions:
Length of Commitment: available for 10 weeks (6/9-8/15), each staff person will work 7 weeks of camp. Attend 1 week of training June 2-6
