DESCRIPTION:The miniNaturalist pre-K program encourages curiosity for the natural world.\nDates: Every Monday\, September – May\nTime: 10:00-11:00 am\nLocation: Montana Natural History Center\, 120 Hickory Street. \nThe miniNaturalist program encourages curiosity for the natural world through exploration and play. We sing songs\, read books\, play games\, and develop skills with art and science tools. Each program begins with songs\, movement\, and stories. We then provide materials for learner directed discovery in our garden. We look for bugs and birds\, color on rocks\, build with branches\, experiment with science tools and play with a variety of art materials. \nPlease bring clothes for outdoor play! We have some snow clothes to borrow. \nBest for ages 2-4\, though any age is welcome! \nCost: FREE!

It’s breeding season and the garden and the adjacent river habitat have a wonderful symphony of sounds. One can easily hear and see 30 species of birds here\, including a nesting osprey and house wrens\, gray catbirds and warblers. We will bird in the garden then walk down to the river to see waterfowl\, raptors and woodpeckers. \nDIG IN! SUMMARY:Exploring Glacial Lake Missoula in the Bitterroot Valley
DESCRIPTION:Date: Wednesday\, May 7\nTime: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.\nLocation: Bus to leave the Montana Natural History Center\, 120 Hickory Street\, Missoula\, at 8:30\, return at 4:30. Additional pick-up about 9:30 at the Forest Service\, 1801 North First Street\, Hamilton (please park in far corner of the lot). Bus is limited to 12 passengers.\nCost: $35 \nREGISTER HERE\nDid you know that some of the landscapes you see in the Bitterroot Valley were created when Glacial Lake Missoula covered the valley as far as Lake Como during the Ice Ages? The flood features are subtle but an essential part of the story. These include lake lines\, beach deposits\, and erratics. The bus trip will also include a stop at the Ravalli County Museum and will also involve a stop at Lake Como. \nDeadline for registration is Monday\, May 5th.\nBring your own lunch and water. DESCRIPTION:Dates: Sundays\, starting April 27-July 13\n(There is no volunteering on the dates June 1\, June 22\, and July 6th)\nTime: 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.\nLocation: Fort Missoula Native Plant Garden \nThe beautiful Native Plant Garden at Fort Missoula could use volunteers to weed\, transplant plants out of the walkways and prune shrubs. Volunteering is available every Sunday morning from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and you can pop in and out any time during that period. We will supply the gloves and tools but if you have your own feel free to bring them. In addition to working\, you can learn about the plants\, birds and ecology of the garden from Elena Ulev\, the Garden Manager. \nDIG IN!
