DESCRIPTION:Date: Wednesday\, July  16\, 2025\nTime: 10:00-11:30 a.m.\nLocation: Montana Natural History Center\nCost: Free for members\, $5 individual/$10 family non-members \nGet into rockhounding this summer! \nREGISTER HERE!\nIn this show-and-tell program we will share the best resources to use to find amazing rocks\, safety tips\, rules and regulations\, the clubs to join for group rockhounding – and how to identify our local rocks! \nYou can travel far or rockhound in your own backyard – amazing rocks are everywhere! In Western Montana you can find quartz crystals\, fluorite\, garnet\, jasper\, agate\, evidence of Glacial Lake Missoula\, nice examples of gneiss\, calcite\, and much more! Our friendly geologists and rock club members will share places they love and how these rocks fit into the fascinating geologic history of Montana. \nIf the weather is nice (gneiss?) we will meet in the Nature Adventure Garden at the east end of the Montana Natural History Center building\, otherwise we will meet indoors.

DESCRIPTION:Date: Wednesday\, July 30\, 2025\nTime: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\nLocation: Meet at Sam Braxton trail head- Pattee Canyon\nCost: $25/$20 MNHC members \nREGISTER HERE.\nBug out with your camera and capture amazing close-up shots of tiny creatures! \nKristi DuBois\, retired FWP non-game biologist and avid insect photographer\, will provide instruction and guidance during this outdoor photography adventure! Kristi will help you get the most out of your macro shots with discussion on equipment\, close focus tips\, exposure\, lighting\, and image composition. You will also learn how to find bugs – habitats\, host plants\, online resources – and how to identify them. Find the beauty in the details! \nKristi is also presenting her photography with a lecture on bug photography at the monthly Scavengers Photography Club at MNHC on Thursday\, July 17\, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. FREE. Attend this lecture and then follow it up with practice in the field! \nWhat to Bring: \n\n\nclothes for changing Montana weather conditions- layers\, good shoes\, hat\, sunscreen\nwater\nsnacks\ncamera (SLR\, digital with macro features\, or phone)\nanything you need to be comfortable walking and standing outside for two hours in hot weather\n\n\nFAQs\nWhat’s the refund policy? \nThe course fee (minus a 25% administrative fee) is refundable if a cancellation is made up to 7 days before the event.
