We’re excited to launch a new partnership with the Missoula-based Rocky Mountain School of Photography! In this three-part workshop, you’ll work with experienced photographers and educators to break down the sometimes-intimidating process of photo critique.

Are you looking to improve your nature photography skills? Maybe you’ve been photographing for a while now, you feel confident with your camera’s controls, and you can create images with intention. But what you’re really looking for is real feedback on your work. And the good news is that you’re not alone! Most photographers don’t have supportive groups of other photographers to offer constructive criticism of their work. This course strives to bring together nature photographers of all stripes in an environment where they can learn from, and be inspired by, each other’s successes and failures.

There will be no dedicated shooting time involved in this course. Instead, class time will be dedicated to providing and guiding feedback on participants’ images, which will challenge and motivate you to push your boundaries. Fall in Montana is a beautiful time to get outdoors and practice your photography of landscapes, close-ups, wildlife, birds, and more. Share your work, improve your skills, and learn from others during this friendly, feedback-based course!

What to submit for each class:

  • Class #1: 3-5 nature photos that you feel are pretty good but not quite right—even if you can’t articulate why. Remember, this isn’t about showing your best work but about getting helpful feedback on images that aren’t quite your best. Landscape, wildlife, macro, and abstract nature photos are all welcome, and may be from a single genre, or you can submit a variety.
  • Class #2: 3-5 new photos. This is an opportunity to take what you learned from the first critique and apply it to new work.
  • Class #3: 3-5 new photos. This is an opportunity to shoot with even greater intentionality, and you’ll have three weeks between classes 2 and 3 so you can really spend some time practicing!

You will receive an email before the first class about how to submit your photos.

Cost: $55 MNHC members, $60 non-members. You can add your MNHC membership to your order when you check out.

What’s the refund policy?
The course fee (minus a 25% administrative fee) is refundable if a cancellation is made up to 7 days before the event. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made after this deadline. See our full refund/cancellation policy here.
