Join Jessie Smith for instruction on illustration techniques with a surrealist’s flair. Jessie will cover the basics of using symbolism to develop a surreal work, as well as which tools to use and how to use them. You’ll learn how to create a polished fine art illustration from a sketch to a frameable work of art! Your subject matter will be inspired by MNHC’s numerous specimens—choose from birds, skeletons, skulls, antlers, and more. During this program you will use a variety of materials including micron and gel pens, pencils and pencil blenders, colored pencils, and Bristol paper.
Instructor Jessie Smith is a local Missoula artist who specializes in surreal naturalism drawing. Jessie has been an artist for over 10 years, starting in the tattoo industry then switching to fine art illustration after learning techniques that improved her drawing skills and developed into her own unique and distinct style of artwork.
