Sip & Stitch: The Art of Bookbinding
May 8 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Summer journaling season is just around the corner. Get ready by creating your own personal nature journal!
Spend an evening with The Vespiary’s Audra Loyal, who will guide you through the process of using the simple-yet-versatile pamphlet stitch to craft your own nature sketchbook. This stitch has been used for hundreds of years for all kinds of humble publications, from poetry collections to religious treatises and more. Consisting of a group of sheets folded in half and sewn thru a cardstock cover, this booklet is an excellent introduction to the craft of bookbinding.
With over 15 years in the preservation profession, Audra Loyal started her book binding and preservation training at UC Davis. She worked for over 7 years at the University of Montana, Mansfield Library Preservation Department, got her Master of Library Science from the University of Washington, and a graduate degree in science illustration from UC Santa Cruz. She is a member of the Guild of Bookworkers and has been operating The Vespiary since 2008, serving individuals, libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and more.
