Naturalist Field Day: Identification and Ecology of Native Grasses

June 2, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$70 – $80

Join botanist and author Peter Lesica for a Naturalist Field Day investigating our local grasses. Using keys, guides, dissecting scopes, and ecological considerations you will become comfortable identifying grasses. Discover their often-hidden distinguishing characteristics and beauty.

After covering the basics in the classroom, we will move into the field to identify grasses in their ecosystems. We’ll visit several sites throughout the day, which will provide comparative study and a variety of species.

What to Bring:

  • Lunch, water, snacks, hiking shoes or boots, warm clothes, rain gear, journal, and hand lens and forceps if you have them (we have plenty to borrow).

Useful Reading:

  • Manual of Montana Vascular Plants by Peter Lesica
  • Botany in a Day: The Patterns Method of Plant Identification  by Thomas J. Elpel

Scholarships are available! Call 327-0405 for more information.
