Hunting & Gathering Lecture Series: Edible Fungi

Join us for an exploration of hunting and gathering, from food and medicine to the naturalist’s habit of creating collections. Each of our six speakers will share their expertise, from identification and use of the object of the hunt to identifying the landscape or phenology clues that will help hunters and gatherers to find what they’re looking for.
Our final speaker is Tim Wheeler, Lichenologist. Join us for his lecture, Edible Fungi: From Forest Floor to Fine Cuisine. Get an introduction to the basics of hunting mushrooms followed by the dos and don’ts of gathering for the table. Tim will also discuss the dozen or so prized edible mushrooms of Montana, covering identification, seasons, habitat, and other tidbits about their ecology and clues for how to find them—and, finally, sharing some ideas on how to preserve and prepare them.
