Trail Camera Photography: Blending Photography and Art with Science

View beautiful trail camera photographs and video during the First Friday Gallery Opening.

Kalon Baughan lives in rural Montana and has made a career in fine art for the past 30 years. Working with oils, graphite, charcoal, and his camera he strives to capture the allure of wild animals in their natural environments. He also uses his photography and naturalist skills to support wildlife conservation by deploying remotely triggered trail cameras and hair snares to collect data on rare carnivores. Kalon’s trail cameras have taken hundreds of thousands of photographs of Montana wolverines, lynx, bobcats, and grizzly bears among a host of other wildlife species. Through partnerships with state and federal agencies and non-profit organizations, the data gathered is used to inform species-specific conservation in Montana. These experiences have offered Kalon a unique, personalized window into the world of Montana’s wildlife. By blending his lifelong passion for making art with his skills as a naturalist and photographer Kalon has recently taken his career as an artist to another level by using custom-built, remotely triggered, DSLR camera systems to capture high resolution images of wildlife in their natural habitats. Through his wildlife photography Kalon hopes to inspire widespread appreciation and thoughtful interaction in the natural world.

Kalon’s show will be up through October.
