Discovery Day: Blooms and Birds Out Your Back Door

May 7, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Mount Jumbo in spring, covered with bright yellow blooming arrowleaf balsamroot.
Community Discovery Day

We are sorry! This Discovery Day is now full! Please check back for more hikes in the future.

Whether you’ve spent an hour, years, or no time at all exploring Waterworks Hill, this Discovery Day Hike aims to give you fresh eyes for one of Missoula’s beloved trails. We’ll start with a steady hike to the top, then slow down to discuss the lay of the land and the flowers at hand. We’ll walk a loop back down, where we’ll likely get our eyes on some fine, feathered friends (and maybe some furry ones, too).

Danielle Lattuga (volunteer Master Naturalist) will guide your hike. Danielle will connect with you beforehand to answer any questions and glean your interests, so that she can tailor the hike to all participants.

What to bring:

  • Good walking shoes
  • Full water bottle
  • Binoculars* and/or camera
  • Field guide(s) (if you have a favorite)
  • Snack
  • Field journal and writing/drawing implements (if you are so inclined)
  • Raincoat (if forecast is drizzly)
  • Sunglasses, or brimmed hat (we expect 100% chance of sun) 😉

*You can sign out binoculars from MNHC.

Physical activity: intermediate

Ages 10 and up

Meet at the main Waterworks Hill trail head off of Greenough Drive.

RSVP is required. Please RSVP to Danielle at lattugad@gmail.com.
