Montly Lecture Series Pat Hagan – Glacier Park Naturalist Interpreter/ Funny Man Thursday, February 22, 7 pm at MNHC Humorous Lecture Small donation requested. For the last 20 seasons, Pat Hagan has been blessed to work in Glacier National Park as a naturalist interpreter. Join Pat for an evening featuring his unique stories about working in Glacier. Pat will read from his new book Seasonal Disorder: Ranger Tales from Glacier National Park and present a humorous interpretive program on mountain goats. Call 327-0405 for more information.
From the Ground Up: Writing and Sketching in the Field with Kim Todd and Claire Emery Saturday, February 24, 2007 8:30 am – 4:00 pm $40/$35 MNHC members Learn to articulate and express the beauty of nature in two different mediums. Join local environmental science writer Kim Todd and local natural science illustrator Claire Emery for this hands-on workshop at a 100-year old mining camp in the northern Bitterroot Mountains. Both hosts will offer tips and tricks on writing and sketching in the field. The day will be spent along a nearby creek in the cedar forest and in a cook cabin where we will write, draw, discuss pieces of environmental writing and stay warm by the fire. No writing or drawing experience required. Materials list available upon registration. Space is limited, registration required – call 327-0405.
Join us each Saturday at 2 pm for exciting children’s programs at MNHC. Free with admission! Great for children ages 5 and up; must be accompanied by an adult. Be prepared to go outside in any weather. Programs run about an hour and a half. February 3 – Nature Drawing (Third grade and up) We’ll try out different techniques for drawing what we see, and then go outside and use them to create illustrated journal pages. February 10 – Nature Poetry February 17 – Super Snakes Learn about snakes, and how to behave when you’re in their territory. Make your own clay snake to use for an experiment, and meet a live gopher snake! February 24 - Web of Life (Third grade and up) Learn about how all things are connected in nature with a fun activity. Make up your own animal and figure out how it fits into an ecosystem.
Nature Detectives Spring Break Camp For students in 3 rd through 5 th grade March 26-30, 2007 from 9:00-4:00 Extended drop off hours from 8-9 and pick up from 4-5 The Nature Detectives spring break day camp will have students exploring nature through games, arts and crafts, and activities in science! Students will study plants and animals native to our region and explore local natural areas under the guidance of our Visiting Naturalist in the Schools instructors. Space is limited so register early! $25 non refundable deposit is required for registration. Registration begins February 1, 2007 . $150 Members / $180 Non Members
Summer Camp Positions Available! The Montana Natural History Center is hiring camp staff to lead our Summer Science Day Camp programs this June-August! MNHC’s day camps are fun, dynamic and a fantastic opportunity to build skills in teaching field-based environmental or natural history education.
