Evening Lecture
The Upper Blackfoot Basin contains the headwaters of our beautiful Blackfoot river. Contamination from the Mike Horse mine site threatens the aquatic life of the headwaters and river downstream.
Learn about the planned clean-up of the Mike Horse Tailing Dam site.
Ron Pierce, of Montana FWP, presents a brief history of hardrock mining in the upper Blackfoot Basin and describes ecological damage to aquatic life caused primarily by the rupture of the Mike Horse tailing dam 1975. Pierce will introduce restoration concepts that will need to be applied in order to recover the ecological integrity of the upper River. The discussion is particularly relevant at this time given the planned clean-up of the mining area.
