November 17, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
An event every month that begins at 10:00am on day Third of the month, repeating until April 20, 2018
MNHC’s homeschool program runs September-April, and gives kids the opportunity to work with teaching naturalists to learn about the natural history of Montana while gaining naturalist skills, making friends, and having a really fun time! If you homeschool, we hope you will join us this year for exciting hands-on science lessons, exploring the world through the eyes of a naturalist!
This year, we are exploring the theme of “A Naturalist as an Artist.” Each month we will cover a different naturalist topic and explore the ways that art can help us to connect to those topics. We will paint, draw, mold, dance, sing, and generally create our way through the 2017-2018 school year. Our topics this year include:
- September: What is a “Naturalist”?
- October: Leaves
- November: Pollination
- December: Atmosphere
- January: Minerals and Rocks
- February: Raptors
- March: Birds
- April: Glacial Lake Missoula
Ages: MNHC’s homeschool program is geared towards elementary-aged students. We ask that parents of children who are still learning the basics of how to read/write stay to help their child with these portions of the lessons.
Location and Dates: September-April, 3rd Friday of each month. Our 10am class has filled up so we’ve added a second class that will begin at 1pm! If interested in attending, please complete the online form and note if you’re interested in the 1pm class or would like to be added to the waitlist for the 10am class.
Cost: To register for the full 8 lessons and secure your child’s spot for the year, the cost is $40 per child or $100 for a family of three or more children (cost can be pro-rated for those joining later in the year). If you prefer to join us on a month-by-month basis, the cost will be $7 per child or $18 for three or more children.
Feel free to contact Bailey at 327.0405 ext.208 with any questions or concerns about our program or to register your child for the classes. Or sign up your child using our online form!
